The First Commandery In Canada - Commandery 710 - Brampton, ON

KSJI Commandery 710 is part of the Knights of St. John International in Ontario. We are Catholic men formed in knighthood: brotherhood, prayer, and practical service to the Church and one another.

We deepen respect for ecclesiastical authority, uphold faith, hope, and charity, and support Knights and their families through mutual aid and shared purpose.

Together we pursue moral and social virtue, lift one another in fraternity, and stand ready to assist the wider Catholic community we are called to serve.

Early in the last quarter of the nineteenth century, a number of Catholic gentlemen assembled in Baltimore, Maryland in the United States of America, and pledged to inculcate Christian principles, to encourage the practices of civic virtues, to develop better conceptions of public duty and to infuse into human society a broader and loftier morality. An organization was thus formed to establish a conservative Christian force to serve as a bulwark against the advancing waves of social disorder and immorality.

These men set forth as a further purpose the creation among its Knights the spirit of fraternity, sympathy and charity to be evidenced in the alleviation of the needs of Knights of this brotherhood incurred through illness or misfortune, and the promotion of a more generous and filial respect for the spiritual authority of the Roman Catholic Church among the Knights. They placed their society under the patronage of St. John the Baptist.

The Objectives of the Knights of St John (KSJ) is stated as “To create and foster a feeling of fraternity and fellowship among the various Commanderies; to improve their moral, mental and social conditions, and to aid, assist and support members and their families in case of want, sickness and death; and to promote the welfare of the Roman Catholic Religion”.

Thus, the Fraternal Order focuses on enriching the Knights' lives in accordance with the virtues of the Roman Catholic faith: FAITH, HOPE and CHARITY under a banner of FRATERNITY.
